Every career in the trades starts somewhere.
For John Ayre, it started in 1984 as an assistant working alongside a mentor who took the time to teach him the trade the right way. That early experience did more than teach him glazing. It shaped how he approaches his work, how he leads, and how he invests in the people around him.
More than four decades later, that same mindset still defines his work.
Since joining Chesapeake Glazing in 2014, John has grown into his role as Field Superintendent, bringing a steady, experience driven approach to the job. In the field, that shows up in consistency, attention to detail, and a clear understanding of what it takes to get work done the right way.
Passing It On
But what makes John’s story stand out is not just his experience. It is how it comes full circle.
The mentorship that helped shape his career is now something he passes on every day. Whether it is guiding newer team members, answering questions on site, or setting the standard through his own work, he plays a direct role in developing the next generation.
That kind of leadership is not formal. It is built into the day to day.
It is also a reflection of how we approach growth as a company.
At Chesapeake Glazing, investing in people is not separate from the work it is part of it. Sharing knowledge, creating opportunities, and supporting development in the field are all essential to building a stronger team and a more sustainable future for the trade.
John represents that in practice.
His experience brings stability to the jobsite, but just as importantly, his willingness to teach helps ensure that knowledge does not stop with one generation.

Outside of work, you can find John in his garage working on his muscle car or just about anything with a motor, usually with his dog cloWe are proud to have John leading in the field and helping shape the future of our team!
